Sugar mills
Typical belt drives: cane carrier and conveyor drives, shredder and knife auxiliaries, centrifugal and boiling-house auxiliaries, pumps, ID and FD fans, cooling-tower fans, bagasse handling, workshop machines.
What goes wrong: cane dust and bagasse fibre abrade grooves fast; heat around the boilers hardens belts; shock loads at the cane end; drives that run 24 hours a day during the crushing season with little chance to stop.
We recommend: wedge belts (SPB/SPC) and banded belts on shock-loaded drives; heavy-duty service factors (24-hour running); groove gauging at every off-crop; full matched sets in a breakdown kit for every critical drive; enclosed guards with ventilation.
Sawmills, pallet and pole plants
Typical drives: head-rigs and band saws, circular and gang saws, edgers, chippers, debarkers, planers and moulders, dust and chip extraction fans, conveyors.
What goes wrong: severe shock (log impact), belts turning over or jumping off saw drives, sawdust packing grooves, pitch and resin contamination, high-speed spindles on small pulleys.
We recommend: banded wedge belts on head-rigs and chippers; service factor in the heavy or extra-heavy class; raw-edge cogged belts on small high-speed pulleys (planers, moulders); regular groove cleaning; tension checks weekly in the first month after a belt change.
Citrus, avocado and subtropical packhouses
Typical drives: roller and brush beds, singulators, sizer and grader drives, wax and drying tunnels, fans, cold-room evaporators, conveyors, palletising.
What goes wrong: wet, wash-down environments; round PU belts breaking at poor welds; timing belts on sizers wearing at misaligned pulleys; lots of small belts that nobody has recorded until the line stops mid-season.
We recommend: a pre-season belt survey of every line; round PU cord and a welding kit at the line; matched timing belts and pulleys for sizers; poly-V and flat belts specified correctly for brush drives; a labelled breakdown kit per line.
Macadamia and nut processing
Typical drives: dehuskers, crackers, sorting tables, conveyors and elevators, drying-bin fans (often running continuously), blowers.
What goes wrong: drying-bin fans run long hours, so belts glaze and lose tension; shell dust in grooves; cracker drives see shock.
We recommend: raw-edge cogged belts on long-running fans (cooler and more efficient); monthly tension checks during intake; groove checks in the off-season; banded or wedge belts on crackers.
Grain, maize and feed mills
Typical drives: roller mills, hammer mills, sifters and plansifters, bucket elevators, conveyors, pellet mills, mixers, aspiration fans.
What goes wrong: flour and grain dust; heavy shock on hammer mills; large multi-belt drives with mismatched replacements; static in dusty atmospheres.
We recommend: matched sets on multi-belt drives; heavy-duty service factors on hammer and pellet mills; anti-static belts where dust explosion risk applies (check your hazardous-area classification); dust-tight guards.
Food, bakery and beverage
Typical drives: mixers, dividers and moulders, ovens and provers (conveyors), packing and wrapping machines, bottling and filling lines, labellers, CIP pumps, refrigeration compressors and fans.
What goes wrong: heat near ovens; wash-down; timing belts on packing machines; many machine-specific belts from different imported OEMs.
We recommend: a cross-reference list of every OEM belt part number to a standard section and length (we do this); timing and poly-V belts specified by profile, length and width; food-grade conveyor belting where product contacts the belt.
Irrigation and pumps
Typical drives: belt-driven centrifugal and borehole pumps, engine-driven pump sets, dam and river pump stations.
What goes wrong: outdoor drives (sun and ozone crack belts); engine drives with heavy start; changing the pump speed by swapping pulleys without checking the motor.
We recommend: guards that shade the belts; heavy-start service factors for engines; check any speed change with the affinity law calculator: power rises with the cube of speed.
Fans, HVAC and cold rooms
Typical drives: air-handling units, extraction and ventilation fans, cooling towers, cold-room evaporators and condensers.
What goes wrong: long running hours; belts left slack for years; pulleys swapped to "get more air" that overload the motor.
We recommend: raw-edge cogged belts or timing belts for energy savings (check the speed); correct tension; affinity-law checks before any pulley change; matched sets.
Crushers, screens and quarries
Typical drives: jaw, cone and impact crushers, vibrating screens, conveyors, sand washers.
What goes wrong: extreme shock; abrasive dust; belts flapping and turning over; crusher flywheel pulleys with worn grooves.
We recommend: banded wedge belts; extra-heavy service factors; groove gauging at every reline; dust guards.
Many larger mines and quarries require supplier vendor registration; talk to us about your site.
Farm machinery
Typical drives: harvesters (variable-speed and double-V belts), balers, mowers, slashers and mulchers, feed mixers, hammer mills, chaff cutters, compressors.
We recommend: matching the OEM belt number to a quality equivalent; variable-speed and double-V belts identified by top width, angle and length; keeping one spare of each critical belt before the season.
Machine builders and fabricators
If you build conveyors, packlines, crackers, saws, fans or process machines, we can help at the design stage: drive calculations, section and pulley selection, custom-machined timing and V-belt pulleys, and consistent supply for repeat builds.
