Fan and pump pulley change calculator

Changing a pulley to get more air or water? Check the new flow, pressure and power first: power rises with the cube of speed.

How to use it

  1. Enter the current and new motor and fan/pump pulley diameters.
  2. Enter the current flow, pressure or head, absorbed power and the motor rating.
  3. Read the new values and the warning if the motor will overload.

Questions

How much more power does a faster fan need?

Power rises with the cube of speed: 10 % more speed needs about 33 % more power; 20 % more speed needs about 73 % more. Flow rises in proportion to speed and pressure with its square.

Do the affinity laws work for every pump?

They apply to centrifugal fans and pumps working on the same system. They do not apply to positive-displacement pumps or compressors.
